Detached Filters

Detached Filters lets individual filters from a Voxel Search Form render somewhere else on the page: a sidebar, a sticky bar, the feed area, or a "More filters" dialog. There is still only one search form, one filter state and one request — the filters have simply moved.

Overview

A Voxel Search Form renders its filters as one block, in order. That is fine for a horizontal bar, but real search pages usually want the common filters up top and the rest tucked into a dialog, or a category filter pinned in a sidebar while everything else stays inline.

Detached Filters solves this without a second form. The filters stay part of the same search form — same state, same submit, same URL — they are just drawn in a different place on the page.

There is nothing to configure outside the widgets: no post type setup, no slot names to invent and keep in sync.

Setup Instructions

A "More Filters" Dialog

This is the common case and needs no extra widget.

1. Edit the page in Elementor and select your Search Form (VX) widget
2. Every filter row now has a Move to More Filters toggle — turn it on for each filter you want tucked away
3. Apply changes

The More filters trigger appears automatically at the end of the filter row, carrying a badge with the number of active filters inside it. The dialog gets Clear all and Show results controls on its own.

The Search and Reset buttons have the same toggle, so a compact form can be reduced to a single trigger.

Filters in a Sidebar

Use the Filter Slot widget when the filters need to live somewhere the dialog can't reach.

1. Add the Filter Slot (VT) widget wherever you want the filters — a sidebar column, a sticky bar, above the feed
2. In the widget, use Connect to search form to pick the search form on the page — the same relation control Voxel uses to pair a search form with a feed, and the same one Split View uses
3. Choose which filters this slot renders

Filters shown in a slot are removed from the search form's own row automatically, so nothing renders twice.

One form, many places

You can use several Filter Slot widgets on one page, each showing different filters. They all belong to the same search form, so a change in any of them is the same search.

Submit-to-Page Forms

If your search form submits to a separate results page — a header search that lands on an archive, for example — turn on Update URL with search values on the form. The values now travel with the visitor, so the results page opens with the filters still filled in.

This previously only worked for forms that submitted to their own archive.

Troubleshooting

The More Filters Trigger Doesn't Appear

The trigger only renders when at least one filter is toggled into it. Check that at least one filter row has Move to More Filters enabled, and that you applied the Elementor changes.

A Filter Renders Twice

A filter assigned to a Filter Slot should disappear from the search form's own row. If it appears in both, confirm the slot is connected to that search form and not to a different one on the same page.

The Slot Is Empty on the Live Page

The Filter Slot needs its Connect to search form relation set. An unconnected slot has no filters to draw and renders nothing.
