Search Analytics
Search Analytics records the keyword searches visitors run through your Voxel search forms — sitewide and per post type — and gives you a dashboard to read them.
What people search for is the most direct signal you have about what's missing from a directory. Repeated searches with no results are a content gap; repeated searches with results are what your listings should be optimised around.
Setup
- Go to Voxel Toolkit → Functions and enable Search Analytics
- Visit Search Analytics (VT) in the admin menu
Enabling it also switches on the Popular Searches (VT) widget automatically.
The dashboard
| Panel | Shows |
|---|---|
| Total searches | How many searches ran in the period |
| Unique terms | How many distinct things people searched for |
| Trend chart | Searches per day |
| Per post type | Which post types are being searched |
| Top terms | A filterable table of the most-searched terms |
Everything filters by date range — 7, 30, 90 or 365 days, or all time — and by post type.
Read the tail, not just the head
The top of the terms table tells you what your site is already known for. The long tail — terms searched a handful of times each — is usually where the content gaps are.
Notes
- Only keyword searches from Voxel search forms are recorded. Filter-only searches with no search term aren't counted.
- Data accumulates from the moment the function is enabled; it can't be backfilled.
- Terms are stored as typed, so the table shows real visitor language including misspellings — often useful in itself.
