Popular Searches (VT)

Shows what other visitors are searching for, as clickable chips. Good on a homepage or above search results, where it doubles as navigation and as a hint about what the site actually covers.

It reads from Search Analytics, which is enabled automatically when you turn that function on.

Setup

1. Enable Search Analytics — the widget switches on with it
2. Add the Popular Searches (VT) widget to a page
3. Choose the scope and how chips behave

Settings

Setting	Description
Scope	Sitewide, or a single post type
Order	By popularity, or most recent
Number of terms	How many chips to show
Show counts	Display how many times each term was searched

Chip behaviour

Chips work two ways:

Link to results — the chip navigates to the search results page with that term applied. Right for a homepage or a sidebar.

Update a search form live — connect the widget to a Search Form widget on the same page, the same way Voxel's Post Feed connects to one. Clicking a chip fills the form and re-runs the search without a page load. Right for placing directly above a search interface.

Styling

Chip typography, colours, background, border, radius, padding and spacing are all in the Style tab, including hover states, so the chips can match existing tag or category styling on the site.

Notes

• The widget has nothing to show until Search Analytics has recorded some searches.
• Terms come from real visitor input. If that's a concern on a public page, use popularity ordering and a smaller count, so one-off terms don't surface.
